About the Holiday Houses

The first holiday house restored by Rupert Acton was The Shooting Lodge and he has since added Henley Farmhouse, Henley Cottage and Cronkhill Farmhouse. A further property, The Smithy, will become available in 2010. On its completion, Acton Scott will provide self catering holiday house accommodation for some fifty guests.

Each property had remained uninhabited for some time and Rupert Acton's decision to convert them into holiday houses was made after careful thought. His motiviation is guided by a strong desire to retain the unique character and period details of the estate’s buildings and landscape. This would have been impossible had they instead been refurbished for residential letting.

The Shooting Lodge, sleeping up to 11, and Henley Farmhouse, sleeping 20, are now spacious properties situated in private grounds with south facing lawns and patios affording stunning views across open parkland. Both provide every modern day comfort, including bespoke farmhouse-style kitchens, ample living space, large open fireplaces and  thoughtfully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Furnished with a mix of new and antique and many original period details.

Henley Cottage is a 19th century former  farm labourer's dwelling,  sympathetically restored to reinstate its original condition. This humble property has taken star turns in BBC Television's 'Victorian Farm',  'Escape to the Country' and the forthcoming BBC2 series 'Escape in Time'. Holiday visitors now have the opportunity to enjoy its homely atmosphere and the unique opportunity to escape modern day living.

Nearby and three miles east of Shrewsbury, Rupert Acton is the custodian of Cronkhill on the National Trust's Attingham Park Estate.  Its 17th century timber framed Farmhouse has the same charm and character as Acton Scott's holiday houses. It offers spacious and attractive accomodation for up to 14 guests and provides spectacular views towards the River Severn and Wrekin Hill, it is also ideally located for the busy market town of Shrewsbury.

Whichever property you choose to rent, and they may be taken together or individually, a warm welcome awaits.
