In Acton Scott we are fortunate to have a variety of clubs, social events and church services, all of which are run by dedicated members of a small but active community.
Recent changes in the village of Acton Scott include a new path and memorial bench by the Glebe pond on Henley Lane (as you travel towards the church from the village hall). This is a peaceful place to sit and ponder as you watch the water fowl. The pond is managed by the Acton Scott Village pond committee.
Our unique Visitor Information Point and walking map is located in our very own red telephone box near the village hall. The village bought the telephone box for £1 and members of the community transformed it into its current state.
St. Margaret's Church has regular Sunday services, consisting of communion services, family services, evonsong and matins. Our fine Nicholson organ was rebuilt in 2018/19 as a gift from TS Acton, who was the self-taught organist there for most of his adult life until his death in 2020 at the age of 95. Organists are welcome to come and try it out by arrangement or to assist with our services (fees available). Organ recitals have been held as part of the Church Stretton Arts Festival and we hope to hear more of this fine instrument on other occasions. Our village fete is a popular fundraiser for the church and attracts people from around the county. We pride ourselves in pulling together as a community to host an event which many people love for its genuinely traditional atmosphere.
Acton Scott's Gardening Club was founded by Mrs Talbot in 1999 to exchange help and advice within the Parish on the subject of local horticulture. It has continued to go from strength to strength, and now also hosts an annual Summer Show. The gardening club meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at Acton Scott Village Hall. Acton Scott Village Hall hosts community functions such as Bonfire night and Christmas dinner. Flicks in the Sticks (Arts Alive) film showings take place in the cooler months and are very popular. You can also hire the Village Hall for children’s parties, celebrations, functions or meetings. Offering modern catering facilities, audio loop and new projection equipment, the Village Hall also has plenty of parking available on site. Acton Scott's Cricket Club was founded in 1996 by Richard Wilson, with the support of local people with no league aspirations who wanted to enjoy playing cricket on Sunday afternoons. The cricket ground is located in a stunning elevated position, with views towards the Long Mynd and Ragleth Hill - in 2020 our cricket ground even featured in the Cricketer Magazine Calender! With 25 regular playing members, ages range from the early teens to the late fifties. The club lists its results, scorecards and fixtures on its website.
