The first holiday house restoration project by Rupert Acton was at The Shooting Lodge, followed by the renovation of Henley Farmhouse and Cronkhill Farmhouse, both larger properties. Rupert has since carefully reinstated Henley Cottage's original 19th century condition.
The Shooting Lodge, sleeping up to 11, and Henley Farmhouse, sleeping 20, are spacious properties situated in private grounds with south facing lawns and patios affording stunning views across open parkland. Popular with families and friends, and booked together as regularly as they are rented separately, each offers its own unique character while providing every modern day comfort, including bespoke farmhouse-style kitchens, ample living space, large open fireplaces and thoughtfully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. Furnished with a mix of new and antique, the use of traditional English fabrics and period details abound.
Henley Cottage is a 19th century former farm labourer's dwelling, sympathetically restored to reinstate its original condition. This humble property, which sleeps up to five, has taken many a star turn in BBC TV's Victorian Farm, Escape to the Country, Country Tracks and BBC2's new show Escape in Time. Holiday visitors now have the opportunity to enjoy its homely atmosphere and the unique opportunity to escape modern day living. It was tipped in 2010 by The Sunday Times' Top 100 Cool Holiday Cottages listing.
Nearby and three miles east of the busy market town of Shrewsbury, Rupert Acton is the custodian of Cronkhill Farmhouse on the National Trust's Attingham Park Estate. Its 17th century timber framed Farmhouse has the same charm and character as Acton Scott's holiday houses. It offers spacious and attractive accomodation for up to 14 guests and provides spectacular views towards the River Severn and Wrekin Hill.
