'If you are in search of the good life: water pumped by hand from a well, instead of turning a tap*,

candle light and oil lamps, not illumination at the flick of a switch, use of a traditional kitchen range for cooking - then this authentic, rural Victorian cottage is for you.' Rupert Acton

*you'll be pleased to hear that the good modern shower and W.C., with excellent running hot water and heated towel rail, is cleverly hidden in a former garden closet!

Situated in a landscape unchanged for more than two centuries, Henley Cottage, sleeping up to five, is an authentic former farm labourer’s dwelling that has been sensitively restored to reinstate its 19th century vernacular.  It now provides the most picturesque and homely atmosphere and promises a real escape from modern day living.

Upon arrival, holiday guests will be provided with instructions on how to use all its domestic bygones. These include a Victorian coal fired kitchen range for cooking, a larder for storing food, oil lamps for illumination, hand pump for drawing drinking water from the well, laundry room complete with coal fired copper and mangle and a tin bath for fireside bathing. A traditional vegetable and herb garden completes the picture of simple 19th century rural living.

This poetic property has featured in BBC television's 'Victorian Farm', 'Escape to the Country', 'Country Tracks' and 'Escape in Time'.
